Pests & Animal Control

Facilities engages with a contracted pest management company to perform:

  • Preventative maintenance
  • Response to active issues

The University also employs Integrated Pest Management, which prioritizes non-pesticide control methodologies. Seasonal events (for example, the spring midge hatch) are normal for the Chicagoland area and allowed to run their course naturally.

Wild Animals on Campus

Please be aware that the campuses host a number of wild animals and birdlife, seasonally or year-round. Many are protected species and are not actively managed – including red-winged blackbirds, which can be territorial and aggressive. Whenever possible, Facilities places placards near their nesting sites to alert pedestrians.
