Real Estate

The Real Estate Office manages Northwestern University's real estate portfolio ensuring property transactions align with the institution's strategic goals and interests. This includes:

  • Acquisitions and dispositions: Oversees the purchase and sale of real estate properties on behalf of the university. This includes conducting due diligence, negotiating deals, and finalizing transactions.
  • Gifts of real estate: Manages the process of accepting gifts of real estate to the university. This involves evaluating the properties, ensuring they align with the university's needs and objectives, and handling any legal or logistical aspects of the donation.
  • Commercial leases (new & existing): Negotiates lease agreements for commercial properties where the university serves as either the tenant or the landlord. This includes negotiating terms such as rent, lease duration, maintenance responsibilities, renewals, and any other pertinent clauses.
  • License agreements (new & existing): Handles license agreements related to real estate, which could involve granting or obtaining permission to use certain properties for specific purposes. These agreements may cover issues such as access rights, usage restrictions, and duration of the license.
