The following is a non-exhaustive list of free community services to provide support and resources for your off campus living experience. Please feel free to reach out to them if you have any questions regarding their services. Additionally, please contact Off-Campus Life at offcampuslife@northwestern.edu who can help you determine who you should reach out to for your specific needs or questions.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: Get help reporting housing discrimination.

Metropolitan Tenants Organization (MTO): MTO works directly with individual tenants to resolve landlord and apartment problems. Hotline: 733-292-4988 Monday-Friday 1:00-5:00pm.

Open Communities: Open Communities helps you avoid housing discrimination and get a fair lease.

Law Center for Better Housing (LCBH): LCBH provides free legal and supportive services to improve housing stability for lower income renters while advocating for the rights of all renters until everyone in Chicago has a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home.  

Evanston 311 & Chicago 311: 311, which includes a call center and an online citizen support center, is your key to City information and services.
