SIGP Interns

Thanks to generous support from Northwestern Career Advancement, the Office of Fellowships hires an outreach and communications intern each summer through the Summer Internship Grant Program.

Haben Fessehazion (Medill '25)

Haben Fessehazion is a rising senior from Washington, DC, majoring in journalism and international studies, as well as completing the integrated marketing communications certificate. This summer, Haben is working with the Office of Fellowships, creating content for our social media platforms as well as conducting research and outreach for the office.

Haben spent the last two quarters studying abroad in Madrid, Spain, where she finished her international studies degree and improved her Spanish. In her last year at Northwestern, Haben is serving as editor-in-chief of Blackboard Magazine, and she is also involved with such campus groups as the National Association of Black Journalists and A&O Productions.

In her free time, Haben enjoys watching basketball, running, and trying new cafés.

Elena Jaffe (SoC '24)

Elena Jaffe is a rising senior from New York City, majoring in history and theatre at Northwestern. In fall 2022, she attended the British American Drama Academy in London, where she performed in a production of Julius Caesar. Outside the classroom, Elena is a Leopold fellow with Professor Cohen researching the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. Elena also serves on the executive board of Purple Crayon Players, a theatre for young audiences company. This year, she was one of the co-tour managers and enjoyed creating workshops to orient District 65 elementary schoolers to this year's show!

In past summers, Elena worked as the free expression and education intern at PEN America, a literary human rights nonprofit, and at the Manhattan Borough President's Office.

In her free time, Elena enjoys reading, traveling, and searching for the best coffee shops around the city! She is excited to be working with the Office of Fellowships this summer.

2022

Gloria Park (WCAS '23)

Gloria interned with the Office of Fellowships the summer of her junior year in 2022, when she worked on creating social media content, conducting research on university fellowship accounts, and updating the fellowship database. Through her time at Northwestern, Gloria earned a BA in political science with a minor in French.

After completing her undergraduate studies, she is now entering the legal field. Gloria is currently working at a law firm in New York City and eventually plans to pursue law school and a future career as a lawyer.

In her free time, she enjoys photography, visiting museums, and finding the best cafes and restaurants in the city.
