Communicating between committees and pursuing institutional data

Dear Northwestern Community,

Although the Committee did not formally meet last week, our members were busy. Effi and Bryan participated in meetings that helped them learn about Northwestern’s policies regarding student protests. They also had the opportunity to meet with Erin Delaney, the chair of the President’s Advisory Committee on Free Expression and Institutional Speech. They will meet with her again soon as we imagine that there will be significant overlap in the work of the two committees.

A subgroup of the President’s Advisory Committee on Preventing Antisemitism and Hate also met with members of Northwestern’s Institutional Research and Institutional Diversity and Inclusion teams to learn more about data we currently have at Northwestern and to begin determining which additional institutional data would be useful. There is a small sub-group who will work on examining and exploring data and consider how we might collect more survey data.

Later this week, Bryan and Effi will meet with a group of University Trustees to provide an update on the Committee’s efforts, and the Committee will reconvene during our regularly scheduled time.

Thank you for your kind notes and for your curiosity about our work.

Warmly,

Bryan and Effi (on behalf of the Committee)
