While many students hibernate during Evanston’s cold and snowy winter, others embrace the season. And for them, Norris Outdoors, an equipment rental shop on the underground floor of the Norris University Center, provides almost all of the supplies they need, including skis, boots and poles, as well as tents, sleeping bags, camping stoves, coolers and even indoor s’mores makers. Norris Outdoors attendant Sophia Theodossiou said early fall and late spring are the busy seasons for the shop, but skis and other winter gear become hot commodities on winter weekends with fresh snow. The most popular winter rentals include cross-country skis and snowshoes. Northwestern students, faculty and staff and Evanston residents are all welcome to rent equipment.
