Why I Reached an Agreement

Dear Northwestern community,
In the days since the University reached an agreement with students and faculty to peacefully end the encampment on Deering Meadow, I have been asked repeatedly why I felt it was important to resolve the demonstration in this manner. In today’s Chicago Tribune, I explain my thought process.
As I write in the Tribune piece, “it was possible because we tried respectful dialogue rather than force.”
