Lois Wilfred Griffiths earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Washington in 1921 and 1923, respectively. Afterwards she traveled to the University of Chicago to obtain her PhD in mathematics in 1927. Shortly after completing her degree, Dr. Griffiths began her career at Northwestern as an instructor in mathematics. In 1930, Dr. Griffiths was named assistant professor of mathematics and in 1938 she was promoted to associate professor. She retired from the university in 1964 and was named professor emeritus until her death in 1981.
