Babak Bakhtiari

2022-babak_bakhtiari_0001.jpgBabak Bakhtiari joined Northwestern University's Office of General Counsel in 2022 as Associate General Counsel. His principal areas of responsibility include Student Affairs, Athletics, litigation, civil rights and regulatory compliance, investigations, and related institutional matters. He also advises on emerging issues involving artificial intelligence and technology governance.

Prior to joining Northwestern, Babak spent 15 years in private practice, including five years as a partner at a school law boutique, where he served as outside general counsel and litigation counsel to K–12 school districts and higher education institutions. His practice included litigation and investigations, employment and labor, governance, civil rights, and regulatory compliance.

 Babak received his bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he majored in English, and his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA).
