Beth Tucker
After being at home with her children for 12 years, Beth Tucker started her journey at the University in a part-time role as an administrative assistant in Northwestern Career Advancement (NCA). The proximity to home and generous benefits package drew her to Northwestern. Fast forward eight years, and now she is working full-time, offering her the “ability to take on more responsibilities to grow personally and professionally.”
Those years at home prepared Tucker well for her various responsibilities. She oversees the student staff in the office and is seen “as an adult that students can connect with on campus.” Her role also includes having conversations with first-generation and low-income students who receive funding through NCA’s Career Development Fund. She not only finds the work rewarding, but she appreciates the career advising services that Northwestern offers, since she admits to “never visiting a career center” as an undergraduate.
Tucker observes that the environment “allows you to take on more,” all of which results in her “feeling very valued.”
